Hunt – January 9, 2012 Meditation

When an obstacle confronts us in our life we all have our individual strategies for overcoming the problem. Perhaps our strategy is successful and sometimes not, and if it does not then we may feel helpless or powerless. Recently I was reading Make More, Worry Less: Secrets from 18 Extraordinary People Who Created a Bigger Income and a Better Life by Wes Moss, in which he refers to a previous writing on the HUNT method of overcoming obstacles. I have modified it slightly; H, harness what you have; U, Understand the nature of your problem; N, Notice your network; and T, Take the next step.

“A man of wisdom
 who controls his mind
as previously stated will be peaceful. His merits will be innumerable.
You would not be able to tell the number of them by any parable or simile even if you tried to do so for thousands of billions of kalpas.” (Lotus Sutra, Chapter XIV)

Applying wisdom to our problem can allow us to calmly look into the nature of that which is vexing us, we can see into ourselves where the roots have grown. With our Buddhist practice we can call upon the tools we have for changing ourselves and creating the causes to bring us merit. Our network is our friends in the Sangha who can help us and encourage us. Finally with the wisdom of clear understanding and chanting Odaimoku with the support of our Sangha we are prepared to take the next steps. We can take positive steps with the assurance of the Buddha that our merits will be innumerable.

“Anyone who reads this sutra will be free from grief, sorrow, disease or pain.” (Lotus Sutra, Chapter XIV)

Continue to practice day by day and you will see a life blossom within yourself that is transformed and free from sorrow. Become the hero of your world.
