Chopping

…and general prepping for a day long retreat tomorrow, June 15, 2010.

A group of 12 students plus their professor will spend a day here at Myosho-ji participating in a Buddhist retreat. These 12 students are from Hood Theological Seminary in Salisbury, NC. They are all attending a summer graduate level course on World Religions. As part of their course experience they will come to our temple and practice Buddhism all day long.

The preparations began almost a month ago when I was contacted by their professor, Samuel Dansokho, contacted me with the question about introducing his students to Buddhist practice. Over the course of several weeks we have put together an activity that will provide them with an authentic Buddhist practice opportunity.

I think it is safe to say that both Samuel and myself are very excited to be able to provide these students, some of whom are already ministers and others are finishing up their studies, an experience that they would probably not otherwise have. Hopefully this will serve as a point of departure for them as they expand their world view and their opinions and ideas of others who have a different faith than their own.

After the retreat is over tomorrow I’ll post more about this and share some photos from the activity.

for now
