Hiking

Atop Kings Pinnacle at Crowders Mountain

June 22, 2010 – today I took the dog for a hike up to the top of Kings Pinnacle at Crowders Mountain State Park in Kings Mountain North Carolina. She and I have been ‘training’ now for several months, going on long walks several times a day. Last week we did the trail at Kings Mountain National Historic site and she and I both enjoyed it, well I guess she did, her tail was wagging the whole time. So, I figured that now was a good time, even if oh so hot, for us to see how we do with some elevation changes. Not bad over all.

Towards the end though she did want to just lay down and not budge, so we took it slow with lots of rests on the way back. I think it was probably due in large measure to the high temperature today. We had plenty of water, and I had her little portable water tray with me so she could drink up lots of water.

The climb was nice and the view was quite remarkable for this area. Since there aren’t really too many mountains of great hight around here it is hard to get an unobstructed panoramic view without driving a long way. The view at the top of the Pinnacle is very nice.

I think next week I’ll go back without the puppy and try the climb up Crowders Mountain. I think I had better go first and see how it is and then if it isn’t too bad I’ll take her along on another time, perhaps when it cools down some.
