I enjoy daily quotation or phrase a day books, and they are widely available for various topics one might be interested in. I’ve missed having one devoted solely to the Lotus Sutra. It became a desire of mine to have such a book several years ago in fact. I began working on this project in 2014, can you believe that?
First my chaplain work and training got in the way of completing it when I first began. Last year, 2016, I was all set to finally finish the project and then my anticipated move to Syracuse from Charlotte happened at an unexpected time and pace. I feared this year would be another year it wouldn’t be completed.
I determined though that no matter what else got done or didn’t get done this book would be finished. So it is that I now offer it to you for your practice.
Reading a quote from the Lotus Sutra can provide encouragement when needed, or it can remind us of our benefit to have found this wonderful teaching of the Buddha in this lifetime. Reading a passage a day can instill in us the necessary hope and courage to lead others to happiness and the elimination of suffering.
I hope you will consider making this a part of your daily service and keep this little book on your altar table to refer to as you chant or before or after your service. I hope you will find this an important part of your life and are encouraged by it.
