Hanamatsuri – Celebrating the Birth of the Buddha – April 7, 2019

Today we celebrated the birth of the Buddha by performing our Hanamatsuri service.  During the service it is traditional for all those present to bathe the baby Buddha statue with sweet tea. Because our Sangha is a virtual sangha it wasn’t possible for people to perform this ritual.  On behalf of those present and those who were absent I called out the names of each person and poured ladles of sweet tea over the statue of the baby Buddha.  There were other modifications necessary due to the space such as a large house of flowers where the baby Buddha statue is placed.  To represent the flower house I placed everything on a flower scarf, not perfect I know but suitable.

I hope you enjoy this service recording.  There were some instances of switching cameras around which make the recording a bit choppy, please forgive since I am both leading the service and performing the functions of the IT and Video Tech.
