Scroll Airing – Temple Treasures – November 3, 2019

Practitioners joined us today from Italy, France, and the US.

Today at the temple I shared with our online viewers some of the many treasures of the temple.

Among our treasures are many examples of Shakyo, sutra passages copied that were then donated to the temple for storage and prayers.  The sutra passages range from Chapter II, III, XVI, and XXI.  Also there are many sheets of Odaimoku written out with prayers for peace and health as well as good fortune.

I spent the longest time sharing colored images of the Buddha that were done during the years 2011-2013 when we were blessed with many children attending the temple.  Sadly though as things happen their parents were transferred and moved away from Charlotte.  I still keep those precious colorings and pray that the Dharma will spread to the young people throughout the world.

I encourage people to write out passages from the sutra in their native language and share those with friends.  Perhaps you have a friend who has experienced something in life and it might bring to your mind a passage from the sutra.  This would be a perfect opportunity to write out the passage and share it with them.  You might even embellish the writing with the addition of a simple drawing a flower, a lotus blossom, or an image of the Buddha.  There are many ways in which we can share our beliefs and the sutra with our friends from our heart.  Copying the sutra is one of the Five Practices given to us in the Lotus Sutra.

It was especially touching as I was going through the colorings to read the names on the art and think of them now.  Several are in college and I remain in contact with all the families to some degree.  It is nice to have the memories from when they were so young and little all the way through their growth into adolescence into young adults.  Please see some of the many many images below and notice how one drawing can be represented in so many vibrant and colorful ways all through the eyes of children.
