Tonight we host Brian McGuire from the Greater New England Sangha. During tonight’s presentation Brian will talk about privilege, in particular Shakyamuni’s privilege as exhibited in the Devadatta Chapter. In Chapter XII we find the story of the Dragon King’s Daughter and her enlightenment. During the course of the discussion which accompanied Brian’s talk we covered a wide range of related issues. The fact that our liturgy does not reflect the values we state as a religious organization such as gender equality as well as the distinction between liturgy and doctrine.
